By the Bay Health Pathways to Care Careers
Celebrating a Healthcare Legacy, Securing the Future of Nonprofit Community-Based Care
As we approach a milestone in our history, By the Bay Health is proud to invite you to our 50th Anniversary celebration — The Black & Gold Gala — on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at The Clubhouse at Peacock Gap in San Rafael. This special evening will commemorate the five decades of our mission to deliver exceptional, compassionate care to the patients and families in our local community. In honor of our 50th Anniversary, we are excited to launch a groundbreaking initiative: Pathways to Care Careers — an innovative public and academic partnership to raise $1,000,000 in essential funds to create a thriving workforce of clinicians and skilled caregivers to support our rapidly aging, and diverse community in the North Bay.
A Celebration with Purpose
The 50th Anniversary Gala will be more than a celebration of our legacy in establishing the first nonprofit community-based provider for serious illness and end of life care in the state of California. It will be a powerful statement of By the By Health’s commitment to ensuring the future of high quality, compassionate community-based care for the most vulnerable populations we serve across Northern California. According to state projections, by 2030 more than 9 million Californians will be over the age of 65, 3 million more than there are today. Within a decade, more than 20% of the state’s residents will be older adults — a higher proportion than currently resides in Florida. Marin County currently ranks 13th in the state for the largest population of adults over 65 years or 22.3% of the population. With healthcare workers already in short supply and record levels of clinician and caregivers leaving healthcare following the pandemic, a recent report by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Health Workforce projects nursing shortages nationwide until the year 2036. It is estimated that the local number of RNs needed to care for our state’s increased population will fall short by 26%.
We believe that nonprofit community-based care must continue to not only adequately support our aging community, but is critical in ensuring access to high quality, compassionate care to all populations, regardless of the ability to pay. To do that, we need innovative solutions that will address the projected future shortage of the incredible clinicians and skilled caregivers that provide this care. By the Bay Health’s Pathways to Care Careers is an initiative designed to pave the way for the next generation of healthcare professionals by creating new educational and vocational pathways at the secondary and college levels. These pathways will not only lead to rewarding careers across the healthcare spectrum for students but will also help to ensure that By the Bay Health can continue to provide equitable access to the highest-quality, compassionate care for our patients, caregivers, and families for years to come.
Why Your Support Matters
As a nonprofit, mission driven organization, we rely on the philanthropic support of our community to ensure that all families, regardless of the ability to pay, receive the same high quality, compassionate care for serious illness and end of life care. Your gifts empower our ability to attract and retain the most competent healthcare team that meets our industry-leading standards. Funds raised from the 50th Anniversary Gala will be directed toward Pathways to Care Careers to support innovative initiatives such as our partnership with the Marin County Office of Education and a new Career Technical Education (CTE) pilot at San Marin High School in Novato set to launch in Spring 2025, an internship program with Dominican University’s School of Nursing program, and exploration of a nursing careers ladder program at The College of Marin. Pathways to Care Careers will create a “cycle of benefits” that will open doors in health sciences for students, help stimulate enrollment in healthcare related degrees at our local academic institutions and help ensure a thriving workforce of quality healthcare professionals to serve our future patients and families like yours.
