Palliative Care

PALLIATIVE CARE ELIGIBILITY

Patients of all ages are available to receive palliative care. In contrast to hospice care, palliative care patients are not required to have a terminal diagnosis and may begin or continue curative treatments at the same time. Typical patients include those suffering from:

  • Cancer
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • End-stage Liver Disease
  • Kidney failure
  • Alzheimer’s Disease

Times to consider palliative care are:

  • When pain and/or symptoms are not currently well-controlled
  • Use of the hospital or ER to manage illness/late-stage disease
  • When the current treatment plan is inconsistent with the patient’s goals
