Testimonials
We are thankful for the wonderful and generous hospice volunteers who contribute in many meaningful ways to By The Bay Health.
Reflections over the past year from some of our volunteers
I’ve been a volunteer for BTBH for the past four years. I came to it because I wanted to start giving back to my community in a personal way, and also because I wanted to develop a better relationship to my own end-of-life circumstances, whenever they arise. The training with BTBH was inspiring in itself: such a parade of bright, heartful people sharing their knowledge of these things. And the volunteering has been rich: meeting good people in their time of need, and giving them as much of myself as I can. I come away from these experiences feeling I’ve gained at least as much from the time spent as the patients may have. And for the few hours a week I spend at this, the impact is disproportionately rich for me.
By The Bay Health has an extraordinary staff and volunteer corps. I am a volunteer and have been amazed at the efficiency and care the organization shows its volunteers and clients. Recently, one of our clients whom I was visiting passed away and the Hospice nurses, caregivers, and social worker who had attended her for many months were by her bedside at the end. They are dedicated and have great skills in care and compassion. The volunteer program included an option to take a 6-week compassionate care training, offered by Stanford. It was so valuable.
I have been a volunteer with By The Bay Health for more than a year and a half. I think the organization is doing incredible work and I’m so happy to be a part of the team.
I have been a BTBH volunteer for over two years and this work has opened a new experience that is extremely rewarding. I have met some of the most dedicated people and seen families come together at times when it is most needed. I would not give up this volunteering for anything as I learn and gain new and wonderful perspectives with each encounter. I worked in the healthcare industry for over 45 years and BTBH is the most transparent, patient centered, staff oriented organization I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
They are a most impressive group of caring people. I am an 88 year old who has a need to have a direct service project in my life. Since joining up with BTBH as a volunteer I have been very impressed with their ability to function at the intersection of patients/family, volunteers and the discipline of governmental regulation. I hope to be a client when my time comes.
I have been a patient care volunteer with By The Bay Health (BTBH) for four years. I have volunteered with a few other organizations, and I found the training and ongoing support provided to volunteers by BTBH to be far superior to anything I found elsewhere. The staff is so professional, conscientious and dedicated. The transdisciplinary team approach keeps everyone informed and allows service to patients to be seamless. Working with BTBH has been and will continue to be one of the most rewarding activities of my life.
By The Bay Health is an extraordinary organization. Everything they do is top-flight. I just went through their Volunteer Training in the spring and have now seen two patients. When my first patient died, my volunteer coordinator called me first thing in the morning to give me the news; I had indicated that I wanted to be called. I really appreciated how she took the time to listen to me give what she later called “my own personal memorial” for my patient. The organization is very serious about its work and the rules that must be adhered to for everyone’s comfort and protection, including Medicare’s! The staff is so professional, yet kind, warm, and appropriate, as called for. I have worked in other programs in other cities and find this one to be superlative. Plus, some of the other volunteers I met in training have become friends.
