For 50 years, By the Bay Health has had the privilege of serving the Marin County community.
What began as a groundbreaking hospice provider has grown into so much more — a comprehensive, community-based care organization offering not just hospice, but palliative care, pediatric care, home health services, grief counseling, and more.
Through it all, our mission has remained the same: to provide heartfelt, compassionate support to individuals and families during life’s toughest moments.
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the deep connections we’ve built with local organizations, schools, businesses, and nonprofits. Together, we’re working toward a shared goal: a stronger, healthier, and more supportive Marin County.

The heartbeat of our organization
Since day one, volunteers have been the soul of our organization. Their kindness and dedication touch every part of what we do, from sitting with patients, bringing music, and various activities to our patients to bringing floral arrangements to brighten a patient’s day. Many of our volunteers have served more than 20-30 years with our organization. These dedicated and selfless individuals embody the community spirit that makes Marin County so special.
For many of our volunteers, the experience is deeply fulfilling — a chance to give back, build meaningful relationships, and make a lasting difference. Some of our volunteers also come from patients we’ve cared for with many finding volunteering as a way to honor their loved one. We welcome people from all walks of life who share our passion for caring for the most vulnerable in our community. And with thorough training, we ensure every volunteer feels confident and empowered to support patients and families in meaningful ways.
Where the community spirit shines
At the heart of Marin County, you’ll find our Hodgepodge retail shops filled with gently used clothing, home goods, and unique finds. But these are more than just thrift stores — they’re hubs of community spirit. Our retail shops are so well-loved by our community that Hodgepodge was voted Best Thrift Shop in Marin by readers of the Marin Independent Journal for the second consecutive year!
Every purchase at a Hodgepodge directly supports our care programs, helping us bring hope and healing to those in need. And thanks to our incredible volunteers, the shops are a warm and welcoming place for everyone who steps inside.
Inspiring the next generation
Through our partnership with the Marin County Office of Education, we’re helping to shape the next generation of healthcare leaders. High school students at San Marin High School get hands-on experience in fields like nursing, social work, and medical administration, giving them a glimpse into the dedication and compassion required to succeed in these roles. The course has elicited positive excitement from more than 48 students, and the program will expand into a year-long course for the 2025-2026 academic year. We’re excited to expand this important educational program to additional public high schools in the near future.
By mentoring these students, we’re not just investing in their futures — we’re investing in the future of community-centered healthcare. These young people inspire us, and we’re honored to be part of their journey.
Always evolving for our community
Marin County has grown and changed over the years, and so have we. But our commitment to providing patient-centered care has not. As the needs of our patients change from generation to generation, we are continually adapting to provide our community with comprehensive yet individualized care.
Thank you for being part of our journey — we couldn’t do it without you.
